On 08-aug-2022, at 10:30am,we reached to a village named "Gauri-maafi",Raiwala ,Uttarakhand, India.our visit was to Anganwadi Centres (AWC) located in the village.
INTRODUCTION:
Anganwadi comes under the ICD's Scheme (INTEGRATED CHILD DEVELOPMENT SERVICES),started by the government of India in 2nd October 1975. It has been instrumental in improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and children under 6 by providing health and nutrition education , education, & health services, supplementary food, and pre-school education.
The ICD's national development program is one of the largest in the world. It reaches more than 34million children aged 0-6 years and 7 million pregnant and lactating mothers.
WHAT IS AWC's (Anganwadi centres)?
Anganwadi mean ( a central area in and around the house where most of the social activities of the household takes place). It is a govt. sponsored child-care center in India.
It caters to children in the 0-6 age group.
we visited to 03 AWC's and observed their Infrastructures, training and personal profile,supplementary nutrition , growth monitoring and promoting , availability of kits & materials, immunization and health check-up and health schemes.
INFRASTRUCTURE : [ Boxa-basti anganwadi centre,raiwala].
A single room centre located in pucca building, included a mini kitchen at one corner of the room for cooking meals & 04 windows for ventilations and 04 skylight ventilation, a weigh machine, 04 chairs, 0ne table, there was neither fresh water supply nor sanitation facility, but stored water was available for drinking. They had electricity supply, 02 fans, and one bulb was also there and properly functioning. .
SYSTEM OF WORKERS :
The Anganwadi system is mainly managed by the Anganwadi worker. she is a health worker chosen from the community and given 06 months training in health , nutrition , and child-care.
Name of the worker in Boxa-basti anganwadi centre is- Mrs. MEERA DEVI .she organizes non-formal pre activities in the Anganwadi of 3-6 years age group of children .she has intermediate passed.
The AWC worker has Mrs. Shanti devi as her helper (Sahayika),she prepare meal for the children and takecare of them .

IEC MATERIAL IN THE CENTRE :
There was various educational posters hanging on the wall , providing information about ICD schemes, diet chart menu, immunization schedules of the centre, and about poems and alphabets also.
The room was full of toys,games,and books. Sanitary napkins were also available for women.

IMMUNIZATION SCHEDULE OF THE AWC:
immunization is held on every 3rd Saturday of the month, different different kinds of vaccines are were available, like- BCG,TETANUS, RUBELLA, DPT BOOSTER, KHASRA,etc.
we did interact with children present over there, and it was fun to be around them,they were learning as well as playing with each other, so, after completing our visit at 1p.m we left from there,as the AWC was also closed according to their time schedule.
